27 Week Update

Another week down in the countdown to Baby Baker! Last week was a little crazy with Thanksgiving - as I mentioned before, JD & I spent this Thanksgiving in Mobile with the Bakers, a first for both of us (growing up, JD usually spent Thanksgiving in Birmingham with his grandparents). It was lovely - we relaxed, watched the Macy's parade, looked through all of the "black Friday" ads, & then got to cookin'! JD & his dad fried a turkey (another first for me), while his mom & I tended to the side dishes. Our spread included cornbread dressing, butter beans, sweet potato casserole, macaroni & cheese, rolls, pumpkin cheesecake, & pecan pie! I polled the table during our meal to see what everybody's favorite was - it was a tie between the turkey & sweet potato casserole (both were super yummy!).
Friday afternoon JD hosted a few of his friends at the house to watch the LSU / Arkansas game & have an unofficial beer tasting of all of the different homebrews that JD has made since last Christmas! Saturday we headed over to the Modling house to watch the Iron Bowl game. A sad loss for Auburn, but a good game to watch! JD & the Man played Saturday night at O'Daly's! There was a great crowd at the show, either out celebrating the Alabama win, or drinking their sorrows away for the Auburn loss... either way, it was great to catch up with some of JD's hometown friends & hear the guys play! It also occurred to me today that this past weekend was the very last time that JD & I would travel to Mobile as a family of 2 (CRAZY!!)!

**For the folks in the B'ham area who may have missed the show (or who can't get enough of JD & the Man), you're in LUCK!! They are playing again this Wednesday night at Big Blue Bagel in Crestline!! Hope to see you there!**

So on to Baby Baker... I don't know if it's the pregnancy or the time change, but I have been so exhausted lately!! I get upset with myself when I'm not as productive in the evenings as I'd like to be (still haven't decorated for Christmas yet...), but then I remind myself that I am on the verge of my third trimester & it is silly to think that I should be able to do all of the things that I used to be able to do pre-pregnancy. Any other moms out there remember feeling this way during the late 20 weeks? After reading this week's update, it made me feel better about being so tired - Baby Baker has been a busy bee, & is getting bigger & bigger all the time!

Here's what's happening this week...

Your Pregnancy: Week 27!! (www.parentsconnect.com)
The light at the end of the tunnel is growing brighter for both you and your baby. With only 13 weeks left (give or take a couple of days), it's time to enjoy the ride because it's getting shorter. (This is the point on the roller coaster where you throw your arms in the air and wail like there's no tomorrow. Weeeee!)

Your Baby
Baby's lungs and immune system are maturing this week as baby prepares for his grand entrance. If he were born today he would have an 85 percent chance of surviving as his lungs are capable of breathing air (with medical assistance, of course). Other exciting developments:

Baby's done a lot of growing over the past few months. His length has more than doubled in the past 15 weeks! And that's not the only thing growing—baby's brain tissue and neurons are all developing at a rapid pace. His brain waves are now firing away just like those of a newborn baby. If baby is a he, his testes will have completely descended at this point.

Your baby now weighs in at approximately 14½ inches and just over 2 pounds, or about the size of that roast you made last time your in-laws were in town. (OK, the baby is the size of that roast you meant to cook before you decided that ordering Chinese was a much better idea.)

I go back to the doctor on Wednesday of this week for another check up. I don't think there is anything worth noting happening at this appointment, just checking to see that Baby Baker is still growing. I was told that after this appointment, I would start to go see him every 2 weeks (instead of 4) until we get closer to my due date (CRAZY!).
This week we are busy getting the house all decorated for Christmas & to welcome our families to town for a baby shower this weekend!! JD's sweet sister was nice enough to volunteer to host a shower for Baby Baker for all of our aunts, cousins, & grandmothers! Can't wait to see everybody on Saturday!!

13 week update

Not much new to report this week - but we have entered in to the SECOND TRIMESTER!!! I can't tell if time is going by quickly or not - right now it feels like it's creeping by, but at the same time I know that the next few months will go by in a flash! Another highlight this week - I am starting to transition in to maternity clothes!! Not for everyday yet, but some things from my pre-preggers wardrobe just don't work anymore :(

Mom & Dad Goodroe came to visit us this past weekend - we went to go hear JD & the Man play Friday night at Big Blue Bagel in Crestline. Saturday we spent the day running around town - mostly looking at baby stuff & nursery furniture!! There is so much to think about when shopping for new baby! Dad was cracking us up because he had apparently done some research on Consumer Reports recently & knew what brands were good & which ones to avoid - so funny to see a 70+ year old man have an opinion on baby strollers & car seats! HA!

This weekend we are heading down south for the annual Dauphin Street International Beer Fest - should be a good time, even for this pregnant gal :)

PS - I have recently fallen victim to pinterest. Many apologies to my husband who on Sunday only saw me from behind the laptop while I was scouring the many pages searching for great finds - I feel like that is bound to happen more frequently...

Here's this week's update!

Your Pregnancy: Week 13 (www.parentsconnect.com)
What You're Thinking:
"OK, fine, my skinny jeans aren't working anymore—and my "fat day" clothes don't even fit. I'm going shopping and I'm not coming back until I've got something I look fabulous in."

Your Baby
Your baby can make a fist and even suck his or her thumb this week—both skills that are über-cute during infancy ... and not so much at the age of 9. If you're really lucky, you might catch a glimpse of baby's thumb sucking on an ultrasound photo. That's a framer! Other exciting developments include:

Your baby's eyelids are fused shut to protect his eyes as they develop. His bones and skull are solidifying and soon itsy-bitsy ribs may appear. (Baby ribs! How cute is that?!) Baby's intestines are finally right where you want them—in his or her belly instead of poking out into the umbilical cord. Baby's tooth sockets are all loaded and ready to pop out baby teeth six or seven months after baby is born (causing baby a lot of pain and you a lot of lost sleep).

Who's that singing? Elton John? Could be your baby: His vocal cords and larynx are completed now.

Your baby-to-be now weighs about 20 grams and is nearly 3 inches long, or about the size of a Nutter Butter, covered in chocolate. OK, it doesn't have to be covered in chocolate, but isn't everything better that way?

O.T.W {over the weekend}

hello friends - we kicked off the weekend right with a JD & the Man show over at one of our FAVORITE local spots, Big Blue Bagel! It was a good time, as always, & the guys sounded GREAT!! After the guys played, JD & I headed over to check out ORE {in the old Open Door location} with some friends - I feel like it was the same as Open Door, or maybe slightly more laid-back? OR... maybe my memory is a little cloudy...

>>PS: JD & the Man will be playing this FRIDAY night at O'Daly's in Mobile, so come get your fix! Or, if you'd rather listen to their musical sylings beach-side, come check them out at DI on Sunday afternoon! Happy Memorial Day weekend, everybody!!

Saturday was DO DAH DAY here in Bham, & we had intended to dress up the pups in their best duds for a day out at Caldwell & Rhoades parks; however, due to the aforementioned cloudy memory (& the 90+ degree weather on Saturday), the Bakers kept it close to the house all day. Instead, we went over to JD's aunt Denise's house to get some BEAUTIFUL ferns that she gave us for our yard! I do LOVE a good fern, & these suckers are HUGE - I have some pictures of them in their new *habitat*, but can't locate my camera cord... (story of my life).

Saturday night was a MUCH-NEEDED date night for this gal & my mister... Between JD's shows, band practice, & part time job at Mellow, it is rare for us to have an evening together. Saturday was such a nice treat!

Sunday was work day - JD was out in the yard while I did several loads of laundry & prepared menus for the week! I also got caught up on some reading - is anybody else reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels? I'm on the 9th one, I think: Dead & Gone. Although not much of a mentally-stimulating read, it's a great Summer series! Any followers of the Ture Blood series should definitely read these books! Thanks for getting me hooked, Katie B!

We can't wait for our upcoming beach getaway in a few days & spending a nice loooong weekend relaxing w/ the Baker family!!

Until next time,

peace & love.

over. the. weekend.

This was a pretty nice weekend for the Bakers...

Friday we went to Big Blue Bagel to see JD & the Man perform! My sweet friends {Katie, Tonya, & Leah} came to keep my company! We even made friends with the bartender, Todd.

Saturday morning we got to catch up & hear all about Katie's recent vacay to Puerto Rico with her boo Dwain! {Katie B spent the night at our house Friday night :)} WOW. After hearing her talk about their trip, I am so ready for a beautiful, relaxing, tropical vacation! Her pictures are incredible - check them out!

I also made a cake for JD's birthday {coming up this Wednesday} - I saw the recipe in last month's Southern Living magazine & knew that it was something I had to try: Key Lime Pound Cake! Here's the cake when it came out of the oven, but before I poured the glaze over the top:

...and here's the picture from Southern Living:

Yumm-O!!

Saturday afternoon we grabbed a little lunch in Crestline & then got ready to meet up with the Knechts for the Boil in the Hood crawfish boil!!

Sunday was really chill around the house - JD didn't have to work at Mellow, so we had the whole day to do whatever we wanted. JD ended up brewing a new batch of beer & bottling another one (a CERVEZA) that we'll serve at supper club this month! I hosed off all of the patio furniture & started to spray paint the wicker furniture. Keeping it the same color, but just patching up some chipped places from where we painted it last summer.

There was also a lot of this going on this weekend:

We are looking forward to next weekend when we start our big house projects!!! JD's sweet parents are coming up to help us - I'll post progress pictures soon!

blogging hiatus...

I'm baaaaccckkkk after a long break from blogging. I wanted to be able to add pictures from my new camera & never remembered to get the usb cord to do so :(

Anyway - a brief review of what's been going on with the Bakers:

After Christmas JD & I decided to take a few days off work around NYE to have a mini-vacation at Dauphin Island! We were so excited to have our GREAT friends the Mullens & the Giesens join us for 3 whole days!! This was one of the most relaxing, stress-free, & enjoyable trips we've had in a while. Each family took turns cooking dinner & everybody brought games, snacks, etc.. for the group! I didn't take too many pictures because the weekend mostly consisted of sleeping late, napping, & watching football! We did take all the pups down to the beach one afternoon:

After this much-needed break from the grind, we headed back home to face reality. You can imagine my disappointment when we got home & I remembered that I still hadn't taken my Christmas decorations down... ugh. So, nothing would do - I had to get the house cleaned up. No rest of the weary, right?

A couple of days after we were home, JD & Sam played a gig up at Big Blue Bagel in Crestline! The boys sounded GREAT, as always, & the crowd was really in to them! Here are a couple of pictures from that night:

If you haven't already, be sure to "friend" JD & the Man on Facebook so that you are up to speed on upcoming gigs, etc...!

More to come...

peace & love

the bakers.

"Ever to conquer, Never to yield"

The weekend of September 18 was a special one for me as I was able to return to the Plains to watch the Auburn Tigers take on the Clemson Tigers. JD wasn't able to make it as he had a show in Hoover with a new band he has joined, Dangerous Cousin

It was a great day all around - Auburn pulled out a victory in overtime after being down at halftime, I got to spend some time with my girlfriends, & even got to catch up with some good friends I hadn't seen in a few years while celebrating Blake & Natalie's upcoming nuptials!! Here are some pictures from the day:
